The Higher Certificates (HC) courses at AFDA are 1-year NQF level 5 programmes designed to lay a foundation of basic skills and learning to enter the creative economy at an assistant level, as well as enable further access to degree level education for first year in the BA or BCom degrees at AFDA.

In addition to gaining insight into sectors of the creative economy, a Higher Certificate at AFDA will develop your capacity for learning through collaboration and an intrinsic practical understanding of disciplines and career possibilities in media and entertainment.

Higher Certificate in Film, Television & Entertainment Production

The Higher Certificate in Film, Television and Entertainment Production focusses on basic technical and/or production skills important for the running of a film or television set. There are 2 streams within the programme. Availability of both streams running in the same year on a particular campus is dependent on students numbers and demand in the selection process. In some cases a combination of both streams may be run at selected campuses. Either way, the programme will prepare students with the skills and understanding necessary for the basics of entertainment production.

Course Structure

The Higher Certificate in Film, TV & Entertainment Production Streams:

Technical

Introductions to camera, grips, lighting, multi-cam studio and stage rigging.

Production and Art Department

Introductions to production co-ordination, art department, wardrobe make-up & styling and stage management.
